Chronic illness gift ideas

November 30, 2022 · In: Uncategorized

If you’re looking for the best Christmas gifts to get your chronically ill loved ones you’ve come to the right place! In Today’s post, we’re going to cover the best Christmas gifts for people with chronic illnesses and what to look for when shopping for people with chronic illnesses.

Chronic illnesses are diseases that are long-lasting and come with various symptoms. Fatigue, pain, and mood swings often occupy chronic illnesses. Let’s go over a few gifts that can minimize everyday symptoms and make living with a chronic illness a little bit easier.

Self-care gift ideas

  • A good body pillow can give relief from chronic pain by relieving pressure. I’ve linked the one I personally have and love. I find I get a better night’s sleep when using it and on days when I’m not feeling well, I head straight for my body pillow!
  • Swapping to natural remedies like tea has brought me relief and helped kick off my natural healing journey. Getting a tea set like this which is packed full of powerful anti-inflammatory herbs is a great present that can open the door to holistic options for many people! With that getting an electric tea kettle would be the perfect pair to the gift. Click here to check out a tea advent calendar that would make for a great gift!
  • A gift certificate for a massage, manicure, or pedicure. Would all be great options. The little things like grooming yourself well can be difficult for those living with chronic illnesses. Having a little bit of help every now and then can really make a difference.

Stocking stuffer ideas

Below are some stocking stuffer ideas that would be good for a flare-up day! Having items that help make uncomfortable days more comfortable are some of my favorite budget-friendly gifts to receive and give.

  • A Shipt subscription is one of the best things I have done for my chronic illnesses. Going grocery shopping causes extra fatigue and can be physical. Having the option to place a grocery order and have it delivered in two hours has changed the game and made life with chronic illness a thousand times easier. For a year shipt subscription, it is $99 and after you pay the initial fee you can get as many deliveries as you want for no delivery fee!
  • Medication case: I recently upgraded my medication case to a cute stylish one because I’m going to be lugging it around anyways. It might as well be extra functional and in style. When I originally got my first medication holder I had just been diagnosed with My first Autoimmune disease and got my first prescription. A few years down the road a nice more functional medication case was definitely needed. At the time I didn’t want to spend any more money than I had to with medical bills piling up. So even an am and pm medication holder would have been a luxury. With all that said a nice medication container can help make everyday rituals easier. There are limitless ones to choose from. Even getting a on the go medication container could be a nice gift and an add-on to an on-the-go kit!
  • Fuzzy socks
  • A cozy blanket

Incorporating a lot of the ideas I’ve already mentioned making a cozy basket that has a mix of each present like a cozy blanket, pair of socks, bath bomb, maybe a flare day activity like a coloring book, etc. Would be a super kind and thoughtful gift that your loved one with a chronic illness will definitely use at one point or another!

Having hobbies I like to do on days when my body isn’t physically able to do anything really helps keep me mentally healthy. Below I’ve linked to my favorite in each category. When looking for a good flare-up day activity you want to keep this in mind.  Is this an activity you can do without a lot of strength and sitting down?

  • Coloring
  • Watercoloring
  • Reading
  • Knitting
  • Legos
