Gut healthy food swaps

December 14, 2022 · In: gut health

Last week I covered Gut health and Autoimmunity and this week I thought it would be a perfect time to go over a few of my favorite products that help me stay eating gut healthy, heal my gut, and reverse my Autoimmune diseases!

Changing my diet was the hardest part of healing my gut. For one I don’t like cooking and two I like food that has no nutritional value and is packed full of chemicals and preservatives…who doesn’t? But I like healing my Autoimmune diseases better. Once I made the switch to eating Gut healthy whole foods the thought of going back to my old lifestyle has never crossed my mind.

Changing my diet gave me my life back. I was constantly fatigued, weak, irritable, and had stomach pain before starting my gut health journey. That’s no way to live in my eyes. Especially when you can eliminate all those symptoms and more by changing your diet.

But I know myself well enough to know for me to stick to something I have to find alternatives I can live with. Because it’s not about going without, it is about finding those healthy alternatives that fuel your body and you actually enjoy. So let’s jump right into my favorite gut-healthy alternatives.

To make cooking sustainable for me I meal prep and only have to cook a couple of times a week. Doing this made the switch from eating fast food, pre-packaged snacks, and ready-to-eat meals to home-cooked a million times easier. I already don’t like cooking so being able to cook a couple of times a week has cut down on decision fatigue, dishes, and my hatred for cooking. As well as cut the amount I spend a month on food by HALF. If you want to learn more about meal prepping check out the article we have posted!

Olipop

Olipop has quickly become one of my favorite soda alternatives. For me I didn’t struggle with cutting soda out of my diet it was the energy drinks. I love a good cold Bang or Alani Nu first thing in the morning. I thought I would just have to get over it because there aren’t any energy drinks with gut-healthy ingredients…until I found Olipop. Olipop’s are not energy drink’s but they are a tasty gut healthy soda alternative which is another reason why I love them and feel like they are versatile. They can replace soda and in my case my daily energy drink! Some flavors do contain a low (and safer) amount of caffeine compared to my 300mg morning Bang. Not only does Olipop actually taste good but the clean ingredients help promote a healthy gut. Since switching to an Olipop instead of an energy drink I no longer get heart palpitations while promoting healthy gut bacteria growth. It was one of the easiest switches I made when making the change of a gut healthy lifestyle. You can find them at your local Whole Foods, Target, or go straight to their website by clicking here!

Trust me you will thank me for putting you on. My whole family is obsessed at this point we are always having to stock back up. My favorite flavors at the moment are classic grape and vintage cola. Let me know which is your favorite in the comments below!

Siete chips

Siete chips taste exactly like your OG favorite chips just without the inflammatory oils. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting and not get bloated. These are some of my favorite chips because they also have a little kick to them! My favorite are by far the salt and vinegar chips. I would not be able to tell the difference between the Siete chips vs salt and vinegar chips with inflammatory oils/ ingredients. They have a wide range of flavors you can choose from I also really like the Fuego flavor chips they have. If you like a little kick you should check those out! You can find them at stores like Target, Whole Foods, and Amazon. Click on the image to go check them out on Amazon!

Hu chocolate

My absolute favorite chocolate alternative is HU chocolate. They have the BEST cashew butter chocolate bars. I am a sucker for anything that has to do with cashews already so when I found a dairy-free chocolate bar that didn’t taste like it was dairy free….AND had cashew butter in it I was so excited. I will say they are a little pricey compared to a normal chocolate bar. So I treat them as a special treat but don’t get me wrong they are more than worth it. I just put most of my healthy eating funds to the main course! Let me know if you give it a try!

Simple Mills

Lastly, I wanted to share Simple Mills. They are a brand that has everything from crackers, pita chips, muffin mix, all the way to pancake mix. All of their items are made with clean ingredients that you can trust. My favorites are by far the sea salt almond flour crackers and the almond flour chocolate chip cookies. I struggled to find swaps of my favorite Chips Ahoy cookies and Wheat Thins but Simple Mills saved the day. I will say some of their items are a little expensive but they are made with clean ingredients so It’s worth the price. You can find them at your local Whole Foods or Target!

Finding these great swaps helped make the lifestyle aspect of switching to a gut-healthy diet easier and more sustainable. Let us know what your favorite gut-healthy swaps in the comments. We are always looking for new gut-healthy snacks to try out!
