Lupus and fatigue – the role of pain management

April 5, 2023 · In: lupus

I have already covered how I manage Lupus fatigue a couple of months ago. I thought it would be a popular post but still, I was surprised by the response. I went back and read over it this morning and thought of one more tip that changed the game when it came to managing the crippling amount of fatigue I had while still trying to having a life. In today’s post I’m going to cover the role pain management plays in reducing fatigue.

If you haven’t already read the first Lupus and fatigue post I wrote, go check it out for more about how planning, diet, and exercise can help reduce lupus fatigue. Today I am only covering the role pain management plays in fatigue levels.

Why does pain cause fatigue?

When pain levels go unmanaged, high levels of fatigue are inevitable. Your body is tired after the amount of physical and emotional energy being in pain sucks out of you. I quickly realized this after I started using CBD to manage my knee, back, and shoulder pain. The first night after using CBD I woke up with energy – which was unheard of for me.

Being 16 when I was first diagnosed unable to participate in any “normal” teenage activity really took a toll on me mentally. I felt like the rest of my life would look like sitting on the couch and maybe showering occasionally if I had the energy. I write these posts to let others who are in the position I was once in to know there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. It just won’t happen overnight.

Learning how to manage my Autoimmune diseases gave me my life back and it can look like the simplest changes. But the smallest habits build the bigger picture. That’s why when I went back and noticed I had left out pain management I knew I had to do a quick post!

Learning what methods effectively managed pain and inflammation reduced my fatigue naturally. Of course, an anti-inflammatory diet, managing my stress, and exercising are also pieces of the puzzle to reducing fatigue. If you’re not proactively dealing with pain/ inflammation you will still have fatigue.

I’m going to share a few products I swear by for reducing pain/ inflammation. Let me know in the comment if you have tried any or what your favorite ways of managing pain are!

I am going to stop for a second and give a disclaimer – this post might seem like a Truly beauty fan club in a minute BUT I try to avoid the use of NSAIDs and the only way I’ve found possible is using CBD daily. I use a lot of CBD which has helped me eliminate my joint/ all over body pain and stopped the need for NSAIDs for me.

Products to reduce inflammation

Before I get into all of my favorite CBD products and this post turns into a Truly Beauty post. I wanted to add one of my favorite teas I drink 1-3 times a day. Turmeric is known to reduce inflammation. When my inflammation levels are low I experience the least amount of fatigue. Click the photo to check it out. Traditional Medicinals is the only brand of turmeric tea I’ve seen such drastic results with.

I’m so excited to share a coupon code with yall for Truly Beauty. I’ve used Truly CBD products since before I was diagnosed with Lupus to manage pain. Everyone in my family is now a Truly stan. So sharing a code is so exciting. Use code “AIPILL” for 15% off your order. Or click here!

I have a few favorite CBD products I’ve mentioned before on the blog. But right now my top favorite and most used is the Truly Beauty unicorn CBD cream. Not only does it smell amazing but I can almost instantly feel relief from pain. I thought maybe it was a placebo effect but after making everyone in my family try it. I can confirm it is just an amazing product. I use the unicorn CBD cream daily on my knees, shoulder, lower back, and anywhere else that might be hurting.

Another great Truly CBD product I just recently purchased and tried out is the Mary Jane CBD bubble bath. I am weird about bubble baths; they are not something I would have done regularly pre-Mary Jane CBD bubble bath exposure. But after 30 minutes of soaking in CBD, my whole body felt lighter. All of my joints felt great and once I was out of the bath I went in with my Unicron CBD cream to finish off. My knees have never felt so good. This is now one of my favorite CBD combos. Weekly CBD bubble baths are now a part of my wellness routine that keeps me uninflamed and feeling my best.

My next favorite product that is notable for all-over pain/ inflammation is the Truly CBD anti-blemish jelly body mask. I originally tried it out by buying the Truly ingrown kit (which 10000% works). After becoming obsessed with how CBD made my joints feel I lathered my whole body in the mask. I do this occasionally it depends on how much pain I am in. I try to save this one for ingrown hairs but I will use it all over if I need to!
Truly products can be expensive even with the use of our code.

If you’re just wanting to try out a few products I would recommend splurging on the blueberry kush bundle or the pineapple haze routine. I use the blueberry Kush bundle daily all over my body and in the shower. It comes with a CBD body scrub, CBD body lotion, CBD body oil, and CBD facial oil. All the products smell like freshly baked blueberry muffins – the smell is intoxicating. I said earlier the unicorn body butter was my favorite but the blueberry kush bundle might just have a tie with it just because of the blueberry muffin scent!

The pineapple Haze routine bundle comes with a CBD hand and foot cream, All over-body hemp balm, CBD salve, and then two hemp CBD lip products. This one is on my wish list. I’ve tried a couple of products from the pineapple haze line and I love them!

It really depends on where you are spot-treating and what scent you would like more. I will use the blueberry kush products all over my body – including my hands and feet. So the blueberry kush bundle might be your best bet and bang for your buck to try as many products as possible!

Let me know what you end up purchasing from truly and how you like it! I’ve tried countless brands for the best CBD products and Truly by far has been the most effective in actually reducing inflammation and pain.

Make sure to go check out the first post I wrote on Lupus and fatigue. Eventually, I will rewrite the whole thing but for now, we have two separate posts! We also launched a new free resource in the Resource Library. Go check out our new Lupus journal printables. Guided journaling has become one of my favorite ways to reduce stress. So I thought a Lupus friendly journal would be fun to share!
