A smoothie for lupus is code word for an anti-inflammatory smoothie. We have done a lot of smoothie posts recently and I thought a smoothie dedicated to lupus would fit right in. If your looking for a smoothie to reduce inflammation, nourish your gut, boost energy, reduce fatigue, and get your protein in you’ve found the smoothie for you!
Like I said when it comes to cooking or eating for lupus I always look to powerful anti-inflammatory foods and build a meal around them. I wanted to do a smoothie for lupus because I know most people like me don’t love eating their fruits and veggies. But it’s super important to get them in, especially with lupus. You are what you eat and your body is fueled by the food that you eat. If your wanting reduced inflammation, reduced fatigue, and to feel all around better incorporating living foods that were made to fuel your body will lead you in the right direction.
Lupus and reducing inflammation
The Westernized diet of high sugar low fiber leaves many Americans bloated and inflamed. For people with lupus, it leaves them bloated, inflamed, and symptomatic. Diet directly affects the state, severity, and progression of SLE.1 Due to the type and change in inflammation caused by the food we eat, disease progression. The Mediterranean diet is thought to be a good option for people with lupus to minimize disease progression and manage symptoms. Always talk with your doctor so they can help you make the best decision for you! Changing my diet from a standard Western diet to a whole foods paleo diet changed my life when it came to inflammation reduction and immediate reduced flares/ symptoms.
Diet was one of the hardest areas for me to change when I started the journey to heal my autoimmune diseases. My diet was rooted in convenience and comfort. Eating instead of dealing with my emotions was more comfortable than facing what was really going on. So switching to a paleo diet where I make almost everything from scratch was a major shock and left me without a coping mechanism. Since getting over the initial rough patch I have never been healthier, happier, and physically stronger. Diet isn’t the only thing that has helped me heal my autoimmune diseases if you want to learn more about my journey I will link all the posts below.
Protein Powder
My favorite Lupus-friendly protein powder is the BUBS Naturals collagen protein powder. It’s paleo and Whole 30 compliant – both diets that are anti-inflammatory. I love this protein powder because you get your collagen and protein in. Most Paleo and whole 30 protein powders do not taste good nor do they mix in well. I’ve never had that issue with this one! We are so excited to be able to share a code with ya’ll! Use code “THEAUTOIMMUNEPILL” for 20% off!
*Update: As of today December 1st 2023 BUBS is having a sale where their collagen protein is only $16.99. I bought three!! If you were wanting to try out any BUBS products now is the time originally BUBS collagen protein is $27 so you don’t want to miss out on this deal!
I will link my other favorite protein powders below as well. They are either paleo or whole 30 compliant! Bubs Naturals is in the top position due to the fact it’s paleo and whole 30 and doesn’t have a flavor but if you’re looking for one that is either paleo or whole 30 compliant and don’t mine a flavor you have more options!
