What to get someone with Lupus for Christmas

August 9, 2023 · In: lupus

I know Christmas is still 6 months away but I noticed our last post on “What to get someone with Lupus for Christmas” has been a hit this past month and I wanted to update it at first. But with all the new trends of 2023, I found myself writing a whole new blog post. This post will piggyback off last year’s “What to get someone with lupus for Christmas” so make sure to go check out our 2022 edition. There’s still a lot of good stuff you might not have thought of yet on last year’s list!

Of course, every person with Lupus is different and has different interests preferences but I have put together a list of products that make life with Lupus easier and I now can’t live without them. My rule of thumb is always to ask the person you’re buying the gift for what they want. You can never miss if you already know what direction to aim in. But the list of gifts I have compiled are sure to be a hit! Let’s go ahead and jump into the best gifts to buy for your loved ones with the Lupus 2023 edition.

I have broken everything down into sections: Pain relief, Self-care, Health & Wellness, Products that make life with Lupus easier, and miscellaneous for the gifts that don’t fit into those categories.

CBD Cream

The Truly Beauty unicorn CBD has changed my life. I have tried around 30-40 different CBD products in varying price ranges and not one compares. I use it for joint pain, inflammation, lupus rashes, and any pain in general. Within a few minutes of application, I feel the pain and inflammation start to go away. I cannot live without this CBD body butter now and almost everyone I know is also hooked. This is a must for anyone with autoimmune diseases to at least try out. It’s truly a magical product that not only works for almost all physical pain but also smells out of this world. It’s hard to describe the scent other than what I would imagine a unicorn smelling like.

If you buy one thing off this list it should be without a doubt this CBD cream my pain management, overall inflammation, and this might be pushing it but my quality of life has improved since religiously using this CBD. Before pain and inflammation was a given and now I can manage it quickly and effectively. I could write a whole article on all the ways I have used this CBD cream before. It’s just that good. Self-care products for people with Lupus

Skincare products that can relieve a butterfly rash are a must! Products that pull heat away from the face work best when a raging, burning, and inflammation butterfly rash has come out. I love using an ice roller or a gua sha that I have stored in the fridge to relieve the inflammation and tightness. Few things help relieve the burning, uncomfortableness, and tightness that comes along with a butterfly rash but an ice roller or gua sha takes some of the heat away making it bearable and helping the rash to go away quicker. I have linked all the ones I have that take away the most heat and bring relief. Not all gua shas and ice rollers are made the same if you stray from the ones I’ve linked always read the reviews and the material they are made of!

Other facial tools that help with butterfly rashes:

  • Ice face roller
  • Ice fast mask

The Sun can trigger flare-ups and butterfly rashes due to lupus causing heat and sun sensitivity. Which makes good sunscreen a must. I have written about this sunscreen so many times I’ve lost count. I made sure to make room for it in this post because it can be a little pricey but it’s more than worth it. The Elta MD facial sunscreen is one of the most recommended sunscreens by dermatologists and rightfully so. It’s perfect for sensitive skin and protecting it from the sun. This would go great in a self-care basket!

Lupus skin requires gentle, moisturizing, and nourishing products. The absolute best facewash to soothe lupus skin and a raging butterfly rash is the La-Rochay-Posay toleriane face wash. I wanted to include this to the list because everyone with dry skin should try this face wash at least once and someone with Lupus skin is going to love it! It’s soothing, gentle, and affordable! It’s super important to take care of your skin, especially for people with Lupus.

Lupus can cause hair loss and a lot of it. Even if your loved one has not been affected by lupus hair loss yet this gift could help in the long run. A scalp massager promotes blood flow to the scalp leading to healthier and stronger strands of hair. I have noticed a huge difference in the thickness of my hair since putting the work in. Using a scalp massager, silk pillowcase, and rosemary oil has been the formula for reversing lupus hair loss. It’s a affordable gift that is good for prevention of hair loss and reversal.

Check out our post on Lupus hair loss for the full routine I do to keep my hair healthy and thick!

Health and wellness products for Lupus

Again every person with lupus is different and has different needs. But I wanted to add a section of all the high-quality vitamins, powder, etc. That have made a difference in my day-to-day life in terms of pain reduction, inflammation reduction, and overall health. I also wanted to add these because high-quality supplements, powders, and basically everything wellness that really works and makes a difference with my lupus comes with a price tag. Not all of these are extremely expensive but buying them all at once can be that’s why I always make sure to stock up on my favorite vitamins by adding them to my Christmas list.

Juicing is a non-negotiable for me now and I think everyone should be doing it autoimmune disease or not! The benefits of juicing can be anti-aging, increase energy, detox the body, and reduce inflammation. There is a benefit in there for everyone especially people with Lupus. I was not on board with the whole juicing thing at first but after drinking my first carrot, ginger, apple, and lemon juice I felt like a million bucks plus my skin looked like it! If your loved one isn’t into juicing you should consider getting one for yourself. My mom has been juicing intensionally with the goal of anti-aging and looks 5 years younger! I linked the juicer I use it’s easy to clean and reasonably priced.

Fitness can be tricky with lupus which is why I like to have low-intensity, at-home options that won’t lead to a flare-up. I would like to pause and say if your loved one isn’t into fitness this might not be the right gift for them it could send the wrong message. The best rule of thumb would be to ask! But workout bands (cloth and plastic), a thick yoga mat, and some light pilates weights are a great place to start! Low-intensity workouts you can do anywhere are good for the body and brain. Again not everyone wants to work out but I wanted to throw these in there because I used to think you had to go to the gym to workout and would make it a big thing.

But it can be as simple as using some workout bands and getting a yoga mat. Working out for 30 minutes at least three times a week has been proven to reduce overall inflammation. I noticed the difference in reduced inflammation and pain within two weeks of incorporating low-intensity workouts. And I know I would love to receive a gift my loved one has put time, effort, and energy into researching my autoimmune diseases! You could even get a basket and put all the workout products inside so it comes with a place to store it all!

  • Plastic resistance and strength training bands for full body
  • Yoga mat
  • Pilates toning ball

Gifts that make life with Lupus easier

Grocery delivery service
There are a few different options when it comes to services that will deliver your groceries; Shipt, Walmart, and Instacart just to name a few. I have tried them all and swear by Shipt. It’s the best-priced and most reliable grocery delivery service. Going to the store with chronic illness can be a huge feat that takes all your energy. And it can be completely avoided by using a grocery delivery service. Or just have it there in case you need it. Which is a lifesaver more times than not when you’re in a flare-up and can barely get out of bed.

Allure subscription box
If your loved one happens to enjoy makeup and beauty products a subscription box like Allure might be the perfect gift. Each month a new box is sent out containing 7 beauty products. Each box is $25 and the items inside typically cost around $150-200. When I was at my sickest, researching or even thinking about new skincare/ makeup products was not even on my radar. And when I did feel good I didn’t know where to begin. Getting new products that are highly rated and loved brightened my day every time I felt well enough to do extra self-care. Allure has deals a few times throughout the year where you can buy three months of boxes for $50 in total. That’s a great deal to me just based on the quality products I’ve received and now ordered myself.

Shopping for Lupus-related gifts can be a hit or miss which is why we curated this list with all the best gifts for Lupus. I hope you were able to find a gift your loved one with Lupus will enjoy! Leave a comment with what you bought them or leave a gift idea for someone with lupus!
